How to convert word to srt file
- Video subtitles
- Rating: 3.5/5
The only feasible way how to approach potential word to srt conversion is perhaps the process of manually making video subtitles (SRT) from texts saved in MS Word documents (DOC, DOCX), perhaps for family videos or similar content that requires few lines of subtitles.
How to make subtiitle file from MS Word document
It is unlikely you can find a tool that can process Word document and just make subtitle file from it. What is more likely that you can manually copy texts and define proper time stamps and save the output to SRT format. Pretty much any modern subtitle software (Aegisub, Jubler, Subttile Edit, Subtitle Workshop etc.) can be used for this, but it is not automated process. In case of adding hundreds of lines, this might take hours to prepare the subtitles manually.
Preparing the texts / subtitles
First and foremost, you need to prepare the texts you want to use for your subtitles. MS Word documents are nice, but you do not need any formatting for that. Making a simple, plain text (.txt) file with the lines you want to use is best.
If you are savvy enough to understand the syntax of SRT format, you can even include the timestamps. For example something like this:
1
00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,000
"First line of text"
2
00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:06,000
"Second line of text"
Using video subtitling software
Once you have your texts ready (rename the suffix from txt to srt), just pick any of the subtitle editors that suit your task best. If you saved your file in proper format, it should be very easy to sync your video and your subtitles and made any tweaks if needed. If you have just plain text file with your texts, you will have to go through the lengthy process of manually adding lines and timestamps to the video.
