What are sa files, and where do they come from?

SA format was used on Xiaomi Redmi devices as part of the Gallery/Album app from 2018 until the single file was replaced by .lsa (photos) and .lsav (video) files in the latest version of the MIUI gallery app.

In the previous version of the Gallery app, users could find the secret album function used to store hidden and password-protected content. When the files were tagged as 'hidden' using the 'hide' function, they were renamed and moved to the hidden .secretAlbum folder or synced via the MIUI Cloud.

All kinds of multimedia content could be hidden, including pictures, videos, and maybe even documents.

Is it possible to recover files from SA hidden albums?

Only if you know the password to the files; otherwise, it is not. It may also be possible that the files are tied to the original version of the app or the device only. As this type of content has been phased out in favor of the new version of the Gallery app, it may not be easy to recover old files, even if you have backups.
