Users often search for a way to convert their scanned .max files created by either the earlier Scansoft PaperPort, or the more recent Nuance PaperPort, especially if they do not own the original software.
A simple method of converting .max to .jpeg could be downloading the trial version of Nuance PaperPort. Use it to export your files to PDF which you can later convert to images, including standard JPEG. An alternative would be finding and installing the old Scansoft PaperPort, which seems to be able to save .max files as .jpeg files. However, the program is a bit outdated.
It's probably not possible to convert these .max files to anything else without using PaperPort or the old viewer version.
