You can't simply convert older WhatsApp message backups (for example, .crypt10) to a later variant (.crypt12) nor can you import it to already Whatsapp. However, you can trick WhatsApp so it restores the backup by putting the .crypt10 in the default folder on external storage, uninstalling WhatsApp, and reinstalling it. This will prompt the old backup import wizard and convert the backups to the latest available version, which may even be higher than .crypt12.
This file conversion has been marked as obsolete. No dedicated converter or free online tool is available, or one of the formats is very old and has been replaced by newer versions, making this type of conversion unnecessary in modern usage.
